Maluku BKSDA releases protected wildlife into Manusela National Park

The Maluku Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) has released 11 protected animals into the Manusela National Park area in Central Maluku Regency, as part of efforts to return rescued wildlife to their natural habitat and enforce conservation laws. “All of these animals are the result of plant and wildlife security operations and conservation law enforcement,” said Meity Pattipawae, Head of the Masohi Region II Conservation Section at the Maluku BKSDA, in Ambon on Thursday. She stated that the released animals consisted of five Seram cockatoos (Cacatua moluccensis), five rainbow lorikeets (Trichoglossus haematodus), and one red lory (Eos bornea). “Before being released, all animals underwent rescue, rehabilitation, and health checks until they were declared fit to return to the wild,” she said. The release was carried out with the support of the Manusela National Park Office, the Central Maluku District Attorney’s Office, and the Central Maluku District Court, as a form of inter-agency synergy in supporting law enforcement and biodiversity conservation. BKSDA Maluku appealed to the public not to capture, keep, trade, or commercialise protected wildlife, as such actions violate legal provisions and threaten the sustainability of animal populations in the wild. “The public is also expected to play an active role in preserving wildlife by reporting any suspected criminal acts against plants and wildlife to the authorities, so that conservation efforts for biological natural resources can proceed sustainably,” she said.
