Ambon (ANTARA) - The Maluku Provincial Government is advocating for the construction of 391 housing units for communities impacted by social conflicts and disasters in several villages to the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP).

Governor of Maluku Hendrik Lewerissa, after a meeting with the Directorate General of Rural Housing at the Ministry of PKP in Jakarta on Tuesday, stated that building houses is an urgent need to accelerate the recovery of communities in affected areas.

“Maluku is requesting support for house construction in four villages, namely Iha Village with 75 units, Danar Village with 90 units, Masihulan Village with 19 units, and Kariu Village with 207 units,” he said.

He explained that the construction of housing is not only related to providing decent homes but also forms part of the social and psychological recovery of communities post-conflict and disaster.

He also revealed that to date, there are still residents living in emergency tents under distressing conditions.

“Until now, the community is still living in emergency tents that are also in damaged condition,” he said.

Hendrik also asked the central government to pay attention to the amount of assistance in the Self-Help Housing Stimulus Assistance (BSPS) programme in Maluku, which is deemed not yet commensurate with the geographical challenges of the island region.
