Mall Security Guard in Tambora Steals IDR 70 Million Worth of Groceries for Online Gambling

A security guard at a mall in Tambora, West Jakarta, identified by the initial I (44), repeatedly stole groceries from his workplace, resulting in total losses of IDR 70 million. According to Tambora Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head AKP Sudrajat Djumantara, the stolen goods were sold, and the money was used to meet his family’s needs and to fund online gambling. “So, the modus operandi was to pile groceries into baskets, then put them into his locker, and take them home when he left,” Sudrajat told reporters on Thursday. Sudrajat stated that the perpetrator had been carrying out his actions for several months. “It was about five months. The supermarket opened in January 2026, but he started stealing in February,” he said. The scheme was uncovered when the management became suspicious of the perpetrator. “Eventually, the management caught him. His movements were suspicious,” Sudrajat explained. For his actions, the suspect is charged under Article 476 of the new Criminal Code concerning theft.
