Alphonzus Widjaja, the Chairman of the Indonesian Shopping Centre Management Association (APPBI), predicted that the level of sales at shopping centres would rise from Friday, 6 March, until Eid al-Fitr. Ramadan visits this year have already increased by 10-15 percent. ‘This will continue until next week before people begin returning home for the mudik,’ he said at a press conference in Senayan City, Jakarta, on Friday, 6 March 2026.

Alphonzus said the peak visits to shopping centres such as malls will rise two weeks before Eid or in the third week of Ramadan. After that, the peak visits will rise again on Eid al-Fitr day two.

However Alphonzus noted a change in consumer shopping patterns; currently the dominance across all categories remains. After Eid there will be more shopping for food and drinks. ‘We are confident we can reach a 10-15 percent increase in visits compared with last year,’ he said.

Transaction values are also expected to rise by roughly the same percentage. The figure approaches the target increase in the Belanja di Indonesia Aja programme or BINA Lebaran 2026, which is expected to see transactions reach Rp 53 trillion or a 20 percent rise from Eid last year.

Alphonzus said as many as 414 shopping centres across Indonesia are participating in the programme. Included are a number of product discount offers provided by each shopping centre from 6-30 March 2026.

Director of PT Swalayan Sukses Abadi or The FoodHall, Lenny Tjandra, said retail plays a role in meeting people’s needs not only during Ramadan and Eid. The government programme gives retailers optimism to strengthen domestic demand.

‘The BINA Lebaran 2026 programme will further strengthen domestic consumption and provide a real contribution to national economic growth,’ said Lenny.
