Malioboro Traffic Rerouting for the 80th Anniversary Cultural Procession of Sultan HB X Tomorrow

The Yogyakarta Special Region Police (Polda DIY) is preparing traffic flow rerouting in the Malioboro area and its surroundings during the Cultural Procession for the 80th Birthday of Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X on Thursday (2/4). Selective traffic diversions will be implemented from 6:00 AM WIB until the event concludes.

“Polda DIY, together with the DIY Transportation Agency, will implement selective traffic rerouting and diversions starting from 6:00 AM WIB until all series of the cultural procession activities are completed,” stated the Head of Public Relations of Polda DIY, Commissioner Ihsan, in his statement on Wednesday (1/4/2026).

He explained that vehicle traffic closures will also be enforced at several points leading to the Malioboro and Keraton areas. From the north, Jalan Malioboro will be closed. Meanwhile, from the west, vehicles at the PKU intersection will be diverted to Jalan Bhayangkara.

Closures will also be implemented from the east, specifically at Simpang Empat Gondomanan towards Jalan P Senopati. In addition, traffic rerouting applies on Jalan Ibu Ruswo towards the west and at Simpang Empat Kauman towards the east.

To support the smooth running of the event, the organising committee has prepared several parking pockets. VIP guest parking is located in the Keben Keraton area. Meanwhile, parking for participants from Yogyakarta City is provided at Sriwedani and Pasar Sore.

“Participants from Bantul Regency are directed to Parkir Senopati, from Sleman to DPRD DIY and Jalan Perwakilan, and from Gunungkidul to the Kepatihan area and Jalan Suryatmajan,” he said.

Ihsan added that the security for the event involves around 900 combined personnel from Polda DIY and Yogyakarta Police Resort.

“Approximately 900 combined personnel will be deployed for security, including establishing security posts to facilitate coordination in the field,” he stated.

Polda DIY also urges the public who will be active in the Malioboro area and surroundings to adjust their travel routes and utilise the parking pockets provided by the committee to maintain the smooth running of the cultural event.
