Malioboro Crowded During Tresna Pancasila Parade; Eko Suwanto to Hold Event Again Next Year
Thousands of residents and tourists crowded the Malioerboto area in Yogyakarta City on Saturday (6/6) to witness the Tresna Pancasila Cultural Parade as part of the Bung Karno Month celebrations. The high level of public enthusiasm has led to plans for the event to become an annual agenda.
Eko Suwanto, the initiator of the Tresna Pancasila Cultural Parade, stated that the activity is more than just a commemoration of Bung Karno’s birth anniversary. According to him, the parade serves as a medium to ground the values of Pancasila through a cultural approach that resonates with the community.
“This parade is not merely a celebration. We want to provide a cultural space that allows the public to internalise Pancasila values, so they do not remain as mere memorisation but become a guide for living,” Eko said in a written statement on Sunday (7/6/2026).
Eko expressed his gratitude for the enthusiasm shown by the public crowding Malioboro. He noted that the high level of participation, particularly among the youth, demonstrates that the spirit of nationalism remains strong.
“Thank you for the warm welcome from the community and tourists, especially the young people who attended Malioboro in person, including those participating in the parade such as the Dimas Diajeng Jogja, Paskibraka, drum bands, and various other art performances. God willing, this activity will be held again next year with even better arrangements, becoming an annual event that is both enjoyable and helpful to Yogyakarta’s tourism,” he said.
He added that the event is dedicated to reviving the character of heroism, patriotism, nationalism, and the spirit of love for the motherland. “We want the community to possess a mindset that prioritises the nation and state above personal, family, or group interests,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Chairman of Commission A of the DIY Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), Hifni Muhammad Nasikh, who flagged off the parade participants, mentioned that the activity is a way to introduce Pancasila values while supporting Yogyakarta’s tourism sector. “This is part of the Bung Karno Month commemoration and serves as a tourist attraction for both domestic and international visitors. We are promoting Pancasila values through culture,” said Hifni.
The parade commenced from the Malioboro area towards Taman Pintar Yogyakarta. The DIY National Flag Hoisting Troop (Paskibraka) opened the procession, followed by the bregada troops performing to the accompaniment of the traditional gamelan of the Yogyakarta Palace soldiers.
Various art and cultural groups participated, showcasing traditional attire from several regions in Indonesia alongside traditional-themed fashion works. One of the most notable attractions for visitors was the appearance of a figure representing Bung Karno, who greeted the public along the parade route.
In addition to serving as a means to strengthen national values, the event is also expected to boost the tourism sector and the grassroots economy. The thousands of visitors crowding Malioboro during the event also stimulated business activities for local entrepreneurs in the area.
