Maliana Road Project Receives Award from Xanana Gusmao
PT Hutama Karya (Persero) received a Certificate of Appreciation for its performance in completing the Rehabilitation of Maliana City Road Phase 2 (Main Road) project, spanning 20.3 kilometres in Bobonaro District.
The award was presented directly by Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão along with Timor Leste’s Minister of Public Works Samuel Marçal during the Provisional Hand Over (PHO) event for the project. They stated that this success is reflected in a customer satisfaction rate of 98.18 per cent, with a customer opinion score of 100 per cent.
Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão emphasised that the presence of road infrastructure as the lifeline of transportation is a crucial step in facilitating community mobility and opening new economic opportunities in the region.
Additionally, the project has had a social impact by involving more than 390 workers. This means that approximately 75 per cent of them are local Timor Leste residents as part of the knowledge transfer programme and enhancement of human resource capacity in the construction sector.
Acting Executive Vice President and Secretary of Hutama Karya, Hamdani, expressed his hope that this project can encourage opportunities for follow-up projects in Timor Leste and strengthen the company’s international portfolio.
“We hope this infrastructure can reduce logistics costs for the agricultural produce of the people of Maliana and accelerate access to health and education for children in Bobonaro District,” said Hamdani on Thursday (23/4/2026).
Despite cross-border logistical challenges, the team has demonstrated that the work of Indonesian contractors brings real change to the quality of life of local communities, while maintaining the nation’s reputation on the global stage.
The success of the PHO for the Maliana Road Project marks a strategic milestone for Hutama Karya in strengthening its presence in international infrastructure projects.
