Male Unemployment Dominates in NTB as of May 2026
Unemployment in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) in May 2026 was dominated by men, according to open unemployment rate (TPT) data from the NTB Central Statistics Agency (BPS).
BPS NTB recorded a TPT of 2.98 percent in May 2026. This figure saw a slight decline of 0.01 percentage points compared with the TPT in February 2026.
“In May 2026, the male TPT was higher at 3.36 percent compared with the female TPT of 2.49 percent,” said Head of BPS NTB Wahyudin during a release at his office on Wednesday (5/8/2026).
By area classification, the TPT in urban areas increased compared with rural areas. The urban TPT stood at 3.74 percent, while the rural TPT was 2.01 percent.
“Looking at education level, in May 2026, the TPT for diploma I/II/III and university graduates was the highest compared with other education levels, at 5.55 percent,” Wahyudin said.
“Meanwhile, the lowest TPT was among those with primary school education or below, at 1.17 percent,” Wahyudin continued.
On the other hand, Wahyudin said the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme and preparations for the Merah Putih Village Sub-district Cooperatives (KDMP) had an economic impact on various business fields.
“During February–May 2026, the agriculture, financial and insurance activities, accommodation, and food and beverage business fields recorded the highest increases in employment, namely 1.09 percentage points, 0.25 percentage points and 0.12 percentage points respectively,” Wahyudin explained.
Meanwhile, the other services activities business field recorded the highest decline in employment, at 0.40 percentage points.
