Malaysia's GDP meets target
KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): Malaysia's Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad said Thursday that the country's gross domestic product (GDP) in the three months to March was well within the government's projected target.
"The first quarter figures are within our projected target to ensure one percent growth this year," he said after announcing a cabinet reshuffle.
Malaysia's economy is "doing well," he told reporters. The country's GDP contracted 6.7 percent last year, ending 12 years of uninterrupted growth averaging 7.8 percent a year.
