Malaysians detain foreign fishermen
KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): Malaysia's fisheries department has
detained a Vietnamese trawler and its crew of 12 for fishing in
Malaysian waters off the northeast state of Terengganu, the
official Bernama news agency said on Thursday.
It quoted state fisheries director Abdul Rahman Mohamad as
saying the arrest on Wednesday was the first this year involving
Vietnamese fishermen.
He said they were being detained at a police station and would
be charged with encroaching on Malaysia's exclusive economic
zone.
