Malaysian Whoosh Passengers Reach 1,150 per Day
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The latest data from PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia-China (KCIC) shows that as of August 2026, the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed rail, known as Whoosh, has served 403,600 journeys by Malaysian nationals, accounting for 42.8 per cent of the total 944,100 journeys by non-Indonesian passengers. Malaysia thus remains the largest source of foreign tourists travelling on Whoosh during this period.
According to the data, Whoosh recorded 105,100 Malaysian passenger journeys between January and August 2026, equivalent to 40 per cent of all foreign passenger journeys. In September alone, Malaysians purchased an average of 1,150 Whoosh tickets per day.
“Malaysian tourists are the largest group of foreign nationals using Whoosh. The presence of Whoosh has made the Jakarta-Bandung journey faster and more comfortable, allowing tourists to visit more destinations within a limited time,” said Eva.
The growing interest among Malaysian tourists has been supported by collaboration between travel agencies in Malaysia and those in Jakarta and Bandung. KCIC continues to open up partnership opportunities with various travel agencies to present tour packages that integrate Whoosh with tourist destinations, accommodation and other travel support services.
As a concrete step to strengthen this market, KCIC travelled directly to Malaysia, taking part in the MATTA Fair in Kuala Lumpur and conducting a sales mission in Penang. Through these activities, KCIC introduced Whoosh services, ticket purchasing methods, Jakarta-Bandung connectivity, and opportunities to develop travel packages with Malaysian tourism industry players.
A large number of Malaysian passengers have shared their experiences of using Whoosh on social media, praising the comfort of the service, affordable prices, and punctuality of the journeys.
Based on interactions by the KCIC team during the activities in Malaysia, tourists interested in using Whoosh are predominantly solo travellers, families and small groups. Others travel using tour packages. They generally spend two days in Jakarta and one day in Bandung, or vice versa, on trips lasting around four days and three nights to five days and four nights.
Malaysian tourists favour culinary tourism in Bandung, shopping and urban tourism in Jakarta, and visits to natural tourism areas in West Java such as Lembang and Ciwidey. Whoosh is not only used as a mode of transport, but has also become one of the experiences they wish to try when visiting Indonesia.
Some Malaysian tourists still choose to buy tickets directly, or ‘go show’, due to concerns about possible flight delays and traffic conditions from the airport.
KCIC continues to strengthen education on ticket purchasing methods and encourages tourists to plan their journeys through official channels, namely the Whoosh application, the ticket.kcic.co.id website, counters and Ticket Vending Machines at stations, Access by KAI, Livin’ by Mandiri, BRImo, wondr by BNI, Tiket.com, Traveloka, and Trip.com.
KCIC Corporate Secretary General Manager Eva Chairunisa said the high interest among Malaysian tourists shows that Whoosh has become part of their travel experience while in Indonesia. Whoosh makes it easier for tourists by combining itineraries in Jakarta, Bandung and various destinations in West Java into a single journey.
“KCIC will continue to maintain service quality and strengthen collaboration with tourism industry players in both Indonesia and Malaysia. We hope Whoosh can increasingly make it easier for tourists to enjoy integrated travel in Jakarta, Bandung and various tourist destinations in West Java,” Eva concluded.
