Malaysian to be IMF boss
KUALA LUMPUR (Reuter): Malaysia's central bank announced
yesterday that its assistant governor Zamani Abdul Ghani was
being appointed as an executive director in the International
Monetary Fund from Nov. 1, this year.
It said in a statement that Zamani would serve a two-year term
in the IMF, based in Washington DC.
He would represent members of the Southeast Asian Voting Group
comprising Brunei, Cambodia, Fiji, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia,
Myanmar, Nepal, Singapore, Thailand, Tonga and Vietnam.
Zamani, who joined the central bank, Bank Negara, in 1971, had
served in various departments and was responsible for
establishing the Bank's representative offices in New York and
London.
