Malaysian singer deported

JAKARTA: Immigration authorities here deported Malaysian singer Mukhtaruddin, popularly known as Ashraff, on Sunday to his home country.

He was deported after being found guilty by the Bogor District Court for assaulting a local member of his staff. The deportation was based on Article 42 of the Immigration Law No.9/1992, which stipulates that any foreigner that is found guilty by an Indonesian court will be charged with immigration sanctions and deported.

"He's banned from entering the country for the next six months," said the immigration spokesman, Ade Dahlan.

Ashraff was also deported on Oct. 20, 2001 for overstaying his visa. --JP
