Malaysian PM Welcomed Directly by Prabowo Upon Arrival at Jakarta Palace
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto directly welcomed the arrival of Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Friday (27/3/2026). Anwar Ibrahim’s visit to Jakarta this time was carried out as a gesture of goodwill on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah. According to the Presidential Secretariat, the Malaysian PM arrived at the courtyard of Merdeka Palace around 4:25 PM WIB, escorted by 17 motorised troops. Prabowo was seen clasping his hands in front of his chest as Anwar stepped down from the Malaysian-plated official vehicle. Their familiarity is seen as reflecting honour as well as closeness between the two national leaders. As Anwar Ibrahim arrived, the strains of the song “Rasa Sayange” played by the music corps echoed. During the Lebaran moment, Prabowo and Anwar also chatted amicably while walking side by side into Merdeka Palace. Inside Merdeka Palace, the two national leaders then held an internal meeting. This close relationship is hoped to further solidify the continuity of harmonious, stable, and mutually strengthening relations between Indonesia and Malaysia amid regional and global dynamics.
