KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has spoken out regarding the detention of 100 volunteers, including individuals from Malaysia and Indonesia, by Israel, issuing a fierce condemnation of the act.

“The barbaric Zionist Israeli regime has detained more than 100 activists, including 16 activists from Malaysia, who were involved in a peaceful mission to defend humanity. This insolent action by this evil regime against humanitarian aid missions not only violates human rights and international law, but also demonstrates the greed of the Zionist regime in closing off aid spaces,” Anwar stated, as quoted from his Instagram account on Monday (18/5/2026).

Anwar accused Israel of suppressing humanitarian voices and oppressing anyone who rises to defend the Palestinian people. “Malaysia, therefore, condemns these actions in the strongest possible terms and demands guarantees of safety and the immediate release of all detained activists,” Anwar added.

Anwar reminded the international community that it must not continue to submit to Israeli tyranny and corruption. He emphasised that the oppression of Palestinians and those delivering humanitarian aid must be stopped immediately.

It was previously reported that Israeli forces captured around 100 humanitarian activists sailing towards the Gaza Strip, Palestine, in international waters. Among those captured by the Zionist military was Republika journalist Bambang Noroyono, who was aboard the vessel Moralize.
