Kuala Lumpur (ANTARA) - Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim conveyed congratulations to Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul on his new mandate to lead Thailand.

“I warmly congratulate my friend, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, on his new mandate to lead Thailand,” said Anwar Ibrahim in a statement in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Thursday.

Anwar stated that as close neighbours and ASEAN partners, Malaysia and Thailand have profound interests in each other’s success.

“Our fates are like two rivers originating from the same spring,” said Anwar.

Anwar expressed anticipation for continuing to maintain close cooperative relations with Prime Minister Anutin and strengthening the Malaysia-Thailand partnership, particularly in the areas of trade and investment, border cooperation, and broader regional stability.

Anutin Charnvirakul from the Bhumjaithai Party was re-elected as Thailand’s Prime Minister on Thursday (19/3), according to the Thai government television station PBS.

Thailand’s House of Representatives re-elected Anutin (59) after he received support from around 293 members of the 500-seat lower house. His closest rival obtained 119 votes, while 86 members of parliament abstained.
