Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has officially announced a reduction in the price of subsidised diesel fuel for all citizens to 2.10 ringgit per litre. This economic relief policy is scheduled to take effect simultaneously across all regions of Malaysia in July.

Quoting his Instagram account on Sunday, the decision to cut the price from the previous 2.15 ringgit per litre was announced directly by the Prime Minister during a working visit to Bintulu.

This new subsidised fuel distribution scheme will be implemented uniformly nationwide through a mechanism using the national identity card, MyKad.

“While the world is still grappling with a global supply crisis, the MADANI Government chooses to ensure that the results of reform, investment and national economic growth are returned to the people through this reduction in subsidised diesel prices,” wrote Anwar Ibrahim in an official statement outlining the people-centric vision behind the policy.

In addition to lowering the price of diesel, the government has also assured that it will maintain the price stability of other fuel types to support public purchasing power. The Prime Minister reaffirmed his cabinet’s commitment to keeping the retail price of subsidised RON95 petrol stable at 1.99 ringgit per litre.

This energy tariff adjustment is expected to serve as a positive stimulus for the domestic economy amid global supply chain uncertainties. The Malaysian Ministry of Finance II is scheduled to provide a comprehensive briefing on the technical details and implementation rules for the diesel subsidy incentive to the public tomorrow.
