Malaysian PM and Iranian President Hold Phone Talks on Peace
Kuala Lumpur - Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim held a telephone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to convey Eid al-Adha greetings, discuss peace, and accept an invitation to visit Tehran.
“Alhamdulillah, I had the opportunity to speak with the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, to convey Eid Mubarak greetings and the fraternal salutations and prayers of the Malaysian people to the Iranian people,” Anwar said in a statement in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday (26 May).
During the call, Anwar expressed hope that the situation in Iran would soon return to peace. He also stated that all tensions should be resolved through peaceful, wise, and responsible diplomacy.
Anwar affirmed Malaysia’s condemnation of all forms of attack and aggression, including Israeli and US drone strikes and military actions. He added that such actions only increase civilian casualties.
“I also expressed gratitude for Iran’s government support and cooperation in assisting the release of a Malaysian vessel some time ago,” Anwar said.
He emphasised the need to strengthen mutual respect and friendship in international relations.
Anwar noted that President Pezeshkian appreciated Malaysia’s consistent stance on upholding peace, justice, and humanitarian principles internationally. Additionally, Pezeshkian invited Anwar to visit Tehran to strengthen bilateral and strategic cooperation.
“Insha’Allah, I will arrange a visit to Iran at a suitable time. Iran is always close to my heart,” Anwar said.
He added that he has many friends and acquaintances in Iran who uphold the values of knowledge, brotherhood, and universal human struggle.
