Malaysian inflation up 3.2%
KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): Malaysia's annual inflation, measured by the consumer price index, grew 3.2 percent between January and March over the first quarter of last year, a government report said yesterday.
The higher inflation rate was largely due to sharp increases in the prices of food, gross rent, fuel and power prices, a statistics department report said.
It said inflation for March alone was also up 3.2 percent compared to the same month last year.
The statistics department, however, said inflation in March was down 0.1 percentage point over the preceding month of February.
Officials have projected an inflation growth of below four percent for calendar 1995, compared to the 3.7 percent rise seen in 1994.
