Malaysian funding for bombers denied
DENPASAR, Bali: Malaysian Ambassador Datuk Zaenal Abibin Zaim denied reports that the terrorists who bombed Bali on Oct. 1, 2005, received funding from accomplices or other people in his country.
He said that an investigation had shown that no funding had been provided for the latest Bali attacks from Malaysia, although one of the alleged masterminds, Azahari bin Husin, was a Malaysian citizen.
"If anyone says that the source of money used to finance the Bali bombings is Malaysia, that's not true," Abidin told the press after a meeting with Bali Police chief Insp. Gen. Made Pastika in Denpasar on Monday.
Last week, the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) said that terrorists were receiving funding from overseas. However, the agency did not specify which countries.
Abidin also said the authorities in his country were actively hunting down Malaysian fugitive terrorist Noordin M. Top following the recently killing of Azahari in Malang, Indonesia. --Antara
