Malaysian Foreign Minister Contacts Iranian Counterpart, Urges Immediate Ceasefire
Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia’s Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan contacted Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to discuss developments in the Middle East conflict and to urge an immediate ceasefire.
“Alhamdulillah, I had the opportunity to contact my counterpart from the Islamic Republic of Iran, TYT Dr. Seyed Abbas Araghchi, on 24 March 2026, to discuss the latest developments in the Western Asia region,” Hasan said in a statement in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday (25/3).
He stated that the discussion also covered the importance of maintaining maritime routes in the Strait of Hormuz for global economic and energy stability.
“I also conveyed Malaysia’s desire for a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire to be implemented as soon as possible,” Hasan said.
Malaysia also emphasised the importance of dialogue and diplomacy to ease tensions and halt the ongoing conflict.
He added that Malaysia will continue to play an active role in diplomatic efforts to promote peace and security in the region.
