Malaysian envoy in RI will move to UN

JAKARTA: Starting from next month, Malaysian Ambassador to Indonesia Hamidon Ali will not have to worry about either Ambalat, migrant workers or angry protests in front of his embassy.

As a recognition of his diplomatic skills and adroitness in dealing with the contentious issues affecting relations between Indonesia and Malaysia, the Malaysian government has appointed Hamidon as the country's new permanent representative to the United Nations in New York.

"It's confirmed. My next posting is New York," Hamidon, who has been working in Indonesia since June 13, 2003, told The Jakarta Post during a reception to commemorate Yemen's National Day in Jakarta.

Hamidon and his wife, Amy Hamidon, said they enjoyed their two-year stay in Jakarta. -- JP
