Malaysian diplomat complains of haze

PEKANBARU, Riau: A Malaysian diplomat has complained that haze from Riau has begun to blanket parts of Malaysia, especially Kedah state.

Muhammad Nasrib Abdul Rahman, a Malaysian diplomat in Pekanbaru, said that his government had yet to file an official complaint with the Indonesian government as the haze was not yet seriously disrupting life in the neighboring country.

Meanwhile in Pekanbaru, the haze was much thicker in the city on Wednesday compared to a day earlier. Joko Sudarmanto, an official at the Sultan Syarif Kasim Airport in Pekanbaru, said on Wednesday that while visibility stood at 1,200 meters on Tuesday, on Wednesday pilot visibility only reached between 400 and 500 meters.

However, no flights were delayed on Wednesday as the haze lifted around noon. -- JP
