Malaysian Co-Pilot's Flight Route Before Ecstasy Bust at Soetta Revealed
The National Police’s Criminal Investigation Division (Bareskrim) has detailed the flight route of Malaysian co-pilot Mohd Saufi bin Othman, 39, who was arrested by Customs and Excise officers at Soekarno-Hatta Airport for carrying 26 kilograms of ecstasy. Saufi reportedly flew from Kuala Lumpur. ‘The flight route was Kuala Lumpur-Jakarta,’ said Senior Commissioner Awaludin Amin, Head of Sub-Directorate II of the Bareskrim Narcotics Directorate, when contacted on Monday (3/8/2026). Awaludin stated that Saufi tested positive for drugs. He has not yet explained where the ecstasy was obtained or how Saufi managed to pass security checks in Kuala Lumpur. ‘Yes, that is the fact after we conducted a urine test upon securing him,’ he said.
Based on CCTV footage previously uploaded to the official Instagram account of Soekarno-Hatta Customs, Mohd Saufi bin Othman arrived at Terminal 3 Soetta on Wednesday (29/7). Saufi, who was on duty as a co-pilot, was initially directed through the fast-track lane designated for flight crew. The suspect passed through the arrival area and completed the Customs Declaration (CD) process via the All Indonesia website. However, customs officers became suspicious based on profile analysis and the suspect’s movements. ‘Although initially directed to the special crew lane (fast track), customs officers continued to conduct risk-based surveillance on the suspect’s movements and profile. Based on this analysis, officers directed the suspect to undergo further inspection of his belongings,’ wrote Customs.
During the inspection, officers asked Saufi to open his silver suitcase. Inside, they discovered 26 kilograms (gross weight) of ecstasy, equivalent to 70,114 pills, along with 4 grams of methamphetamine hidden in the luggage. In addition to the narcotics, officers found a small bottle containing clean urine. The urine is suspected to have been prepared by Saufi to falsify a urine test in the event of a random inspection at the airport. Mohd Saufi bin Othman and all evidence have now been handed over to the Bareskrim Narcotics Directorate for further investigation.
