Malaysian climber falls on Mount Rinjani, now receiving treatment in Bali

Malaysian female climber Chye Connsynn (41), who suffered an accident on the Sembalun climbing route of Mount Rinjani in East Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), is now receiving intensive care at Inmedika Sanur Hospital in Bali.

“The victim, who fell while descending from the peak towards Pelawangan, was evacuated by helicopter to a hospital in Bali for intensive medical treatment,” said Basarnas Operational Deputy Edy Prakoso, quoted from Antara on Thursday (28 May 2026).

The victim was successfully evacuated using Air Medical Evacuation (EMU) on Tuesday (26 May 2026), after delays due to extreme weather at the pickup location. She reportedly sustained serious injuries, rendering her unable to move, and was urgently evacuated by porters and guides to Pelawangan 2 Sembalun, as reported by Kompas.com on Tuesday (26 May 2026).

Rescue teams from Kayangan SAR Post and Mataram SAR Office were promptly dispatched to the scene. However, the helicopter was forced to return to its base in Bali due to thick fog covering Pelawangan 2 Sembalun, resulting in limited visibility.

The air evacuation process resumed on Tuesday (26 May 2026) and proceeded smoothly. Following a smooth evacuation process, the victim was transferred into the helicopter and took off from Pelawangan 2 for Bali at 08:17 WITA. The helicopter successfully landed at Benoa Helipad in Bali at 09:05 WITA, after which the victim was referred to Inmedika Sanur Hospital for further medical treatment.
