Malaysian Authorities Launch Full Investigation into Pilot Caught with 26 kg of Ecstasy
Kuala Lumpur (ANTARA) — Malaysian authorities have stated that they are conducting a thorough investigation into the case of a Malaysian co-pilot with the initials MSO, who was caught carrying 26 kilograms of ecstasy from Malaysia to Indonesia.
The investigation is being carried out by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Malaysian Ministry of Transport (MOT), the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS), and the Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG).
According to information gathered by ANTARA in Kuala Lumpur on Monday, the Malaysian police are still investigating how MSO managed to evade inspection at Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
Meanwhile, the Director-General of the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS), Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, stated that every flight crew member in Malaysia undergoes strict inspection at the airport.
According to Shuhaily, every offender has their own modus operandi to carry out criminal acts such as smuggling. He said this is what the Malaysian police are currently investigating.
The Malaysia Aviation Group has also stated that it will strengthen inspection procedures for all aircraft crew.
Previously, customs officers at Soekarno-Hatta Airport successfully foiled an attempt to smuggle 70,144 ecstasy pills weighing 26 kg by a Malaysian co-pilot, MSO.
In the operation, MSO used the aircraft crew channel, which is separate from the general passenger channel.
On social media, a number of Malaysian netizens have also questioned the inspection procedures for aircraft crew at KLIA, after MSO managed to board a flight carrying a suitcase filled with drugs, with the individual also suspected of being under the influence of narcotics.
