Malaysian arrested for drugs

INDONESIA: A Malaysian was arrested by security officers at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, on Saturday, for allegedly carrying 19,945 ecstasy pills in his bag.

The Malaysian was identified as Tan Chen Wen, 30. Tan was about to head to Batam on a flight at 2 p.m., after he had stayed in Jakarta since Tuesday.

"The suspect was observed waiting in the airport lobby since 10:30 a.m. When we looked at him, he seemed very nervous, so we became suspicious," said a security officer, who declined to be named.

He said officers then approached the man but when he tried to run away they took him to the security room for questioning.

When officers searched his bag, they found 100 plastic bags, containing 9,974 yellow and 9,971 blue ecstasy pills.

The suspect was then handed over to Tangerang Police for further questioning. -- JP
