Kuala Lumpur (ANTARA) - Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is scheduled to make an official visit to Malaysia from Wednesday (15/4) to Friday (17/4) and meet with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to discuss a range of bilateral issues up to the Middle East conflict.

“Prime Minister Albanese will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Penny Wong and senior government officials,” according to a statement from the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Wisma Putra) in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday.

Anwar Ibrahim will welcome Albanese with an Official Welcome Ceremony at the Perdana Putra Complex in Putrajaya on Thursday (16/4), followed by a restricted meeting between the two national leaders.

The two will discuss energy security, trade and investment, as well as cooperation in renewable energy and green technology.

In addition, Ibrahim and Albanese will also address the conflict in the Middle East as well as the impact of the resulting energy crisis and its global implications, particularly for Malaysia and Australia.

“In this context, the two leaders are expected to enhance diplomatic efforts to ease tensions and ensure the continuity of global trade routes and energy supply chains that are vital to the well-being of their people,” the Wisma Putra statement said.

An official lunch in honour of Prime Minister Albanese will also be held at the Seri Perdana Complex.

Malaysia states that Australia remains an important trading partner. In 2025, Malaysia and Australia each ranked as the other’s 12th largest trading partner.

Total bilateral trade in 2025 reached 78.63 billion ringgit (Rp314 trillion), with export and import values of 48.64 billion ringgit (Rp194 trillion) and 29.99 billion ringgit (Rp119 trillion), respectively.

Malaysia and Australia have elevated their bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) in 2021, which provides a framework for exploring new areas of cooperation under three pillars: economic prosperity, society and technology, and regional defence and security.
