Malaysia wins junior c'ships

JAKARTA (JP): Malaysia defeated host Chinese Taipei 3-0 to win
the boys event at the Fifth Asian Junior Badminton Championships
on Tuesday.

Malaysia reached the final by defeating second seed South
Korea 3-1, while last year's runner-up Indonesia fell to Chinese
Taipei 3-1 in the other semifinals, Bernama reported.

Defending champion China opted to skip the event. No reason
was given, but most people assumed it was due to the political
tension between Beijing and Taipei. (yan)
