Malaysia Welcomes Peace Blossoming Between Iran and the US

Malaysia welcomes the announcement of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran, marking an important step towards de-escalation in West Asia and opening a structured path towards a comprehensive and sustainable resolution. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia (Wisma Putra), in a statement in Kuala Lumpur on Monday (15/6), expressed appreciation to the Government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the State of Qatar, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Republic of Türkiye, and other countries in the region for their respective roles in supporting diplomatic efforts and dialogue between the parties. Malaysia also acknowledged the constructive engagement and political will demonstrated by all parties in advancing efforts to ease tensions and promote peace and stability. Malaysia looks forward to the commencement of further negotiations towards a final agreement following the signing of the MoU in Switzerland scheduled for 19 June 2026, as well as the verification of initial implementation measures, including maritime security arrangements, gradual sanctions relief, and various other confidence-building measures as agreed by the parties. These measures are expected to contribute to a sustainable cessation of hostilities, enhanced regional stability, protection of freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, and the strengthening of the global economy and energy security. Malaysia remains convinced that lasting peace can only be achieved through dialogue, diplomacy, and mutual respect. Malaysia declares its readiness to support any constructive initiative that contributes to the maintenance of international peace and security, and the realisation of justice and prosperity for all.
