Malaysia-U.S. relations

Malaysia-U.S. relations

The historically good relations between Malaysia and the U.S. were unfortunately strained in recent years because of certain incidents. However, relations can be improved if we are prepared to put the past behind us and, as the saying goes, "let bygones be bygones."

Malaysia is looking forward to a new beginning in its relationship with the U.S. under the new Bush Administration. There are things that we share in common, such as out commitment to free enterprise and the legal system, which is based on the British tradition.

Many of our educated people are exposed to the strengths of America's educational system and its cultural values. But at the same time, they are also aware of the weaknesses and negative side of the U.S., such as its high crime rate and racial prejudices.
