Malaysia to Singapore in Just 5 Minutes, Fares Under Rp 100,000
Travel from Malaysia to Singapore will soon be possible for just under Rp 100,000 per journey. The Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link, which will connect Johor Bahru and Singapore, is scheduled to begin operations in late 2026.
Fares are estimated to range between 5–7 Singapore dollars, or approximately Rp 66,000 to Rp 92,000 per one-way journey. Although not yet finalised, this is significantly cheaper than the cost of cross-border travel by private vehicle, which can reach approximately 50 Singapore dollars or around Rp 600,000 per day.
The RTS Link has been designed to reduce congestion at the border whilst simultaneously improving connectivity between the two countries. Trains will operate at intervals as short as 3.6 minutes. Eight train sets will be deployed to begin service in December 2026.
Each train can carry more than 600 passengers per journey, with capacity reaching up to 10,000 passengers per hour per direction. Daily operations are scheduled from 06:00 until midnight.
Despite the five-minute journey time, passengers will still be required to undergo immigration checks. Approximately 100 automated gates utilising AI technology will be provided to expedite the process, with screening taking approximately seven seconds per person. Security facilities including baggage scanning lanes and dedicated baggage-free lanes will also be available.
With relatively affordable ticket prices and an exceptionally short travel time, the RTS Link has the potential to become the preferred option for cross-border workers and tourists seeking convenient travel between Malaysia and Singapore.
