Malaysia to Host Replacement Bahrain GP

Malaysia will serve as the replacement host for the Bahrain Grand Prix scheduled to take place on 2-4 October.

The Sepang International Circuit was chosen as the venue for the grand prix after Formula 1 organisers, the FIA, the Bahraini government and the Malaysian government agreed to cooperate and shift the race calendar.

“We are happy to confirm that Malaysia will host the Bahrain Grand Prix in 2026,” said Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali on the Formula 1 website on Sunday.

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem said the change had been carefully considered, given that the Sepang Circuit meets the standards required to stage the event.

“Malaysia has long held an important place in Formula 1’s history, and the Championship’s return to Sepang is proof of our close relationship with Malaysia’s sporting association, the continued commitment of the Malaysian Government, and the strength of international cooperation in our sport,” he added.

The Sepang Circuit previously featured on the F1 calendar following its debut in 1999.

The Bahrain Grand Prix had originally been scheduled for April, but the conflict between Iran and the United States-Israel affected several countries in the Middle East.
