Malaysia to have new radio station
KUALA LUMPUR (Reuter): A new Malaysian radio station that will
broadcast mostly information on government policies is expected
to be launched September 25, the national Bernama news agency
reported yesterday.
"The channel will be more information than entertainment. The
public needs to obtain information more effectively," Information
Minister Mohamed Rahmat was quoted as saying.
The station will be known as Radio Penerangan (Information
Radio) and will initially broadcast to the Klang Valley area
around Kuala Lumpur for eight hours starting at 6 a.m. (5 a.m.
Jakarta time), and eventually broadcasting up to 18 hours a day.
The radio station was needed because certain parties
misrepresented the government's policies and programs, causing
the public to misinterpret and misunderstand the government,
Mohamed was quoted as saying.
