Malaysia to buy guided missiles
KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): Malaysian Defense Minister Najib Razak on Sunday said the country would beef up its armed forces by buying anti-tank guided missiles and other weapons, Bernama news agency reported.
"This will enhance the capability and fire power of the Malaysian armed forces," Defense Minister Najib Razak said during a visit to Malaysia's central Pahang state.
The guided missiles were initially planned for the use of Malaysian peacekeepers in Bosnia, said Najib.
Malaysia on Saturday said it had no intention of pulling out of Bosnia despite heavy fighting that has raged outside the so- called UN "safe area" of Bosnia's northwestern town of Bihac.
Najib said the 1,500 Malaysian peacekeepers in Bosnia were under no immediate threat because they were stationed some 128 kilometers away from Bihac, but they had been placed on alert.
