Malaysia to Also Implement WFH for Civil Servants Starting 15 April

The Malaysian government will implement work from home (WFH) for government employees or civil servants (ASN). This implementation will begin on 15 April 2026.

“Today’s cabinet meeting approved the implementation of the work-from-home policy for ministries, agencies, as well as legal entities and government-owned companies starting 15 April,” said Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in a video statement, monitored in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, as reported by Antara on Wednesday (1/4/2026) evening.

Anwar Ibrahim conveyed that the technical details of implementing WFH for government employees will be announced further in the future. He stated that the purpose of implementing WFH is to reduce fuel usage and ensure the sustainability of energy supply.

The Malaysian government’s step to implement WFH for ASN is also being taken by the Indonesian government. The Indonesian government previously announced first that the WFH policy for ASN will be implemented every Friday.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said the policy will apply starting 1 April 2026 and will be evaluated after two months of implementation.

The Indonesian government also provides recommendations for WFH in the private sector. The arrangements will be stipulated through a Circular from the Minister of Manpower, while still considering the characteristics and needs of each business sector.
