Malaysia, Thailand, to share airports
KUALA LUMPUR (AP): Malaysia and Thailand have instituted a virtual open-skies policy for air travel between the countries, the New Straits Times newspaper reported on Thursday.
Malaysia has obtained landing rights to all airports in Thailand effective from Monday, with no limits on aircraft capacity and frequency, and has given the same rights to Thailand.
Malaysian Transport Minister Ling Liong Sik said that the agreement was reached during his meeting last week with his Thai counterpart, Wan Muhammad Noor Matha.
Airlines will only be allowed to fly passengers back to their country of origin and can't fly on to a third country. Cargo flights are, however, allowed to fly to one more country.
