Malaysia-Thailand Accelerate Bilateral Trade Target of Rp521 Trillion
Kuala Lumpur (ANTARA) - Malaysia and Thailand are committed to accelerating the achievement of a bilateral trade target worth US$30 billion (approximately Rp521.3 trillion) by 2027. The commitment was conveyed during a bilateral meeting led by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul on the sidelines of the 48th ASEAN Summit in the Philippines on Friday (8/5) evening. “This meeting reflects our shared commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, including accelerating the US$30 billion trade target by 2027 and expanding cross-border connectivity for the benefit of the people of both countries,” Anwar stated. During the meeting, Malaysia affirmed that all disputes must be resolved peacefully based on international law. Malaysia also emphasised the importance of maintaining ASEAN unity as a platform for regional peace and stability. According to Anwar, Malaysia remains committed to supporting diplomacy, dialogue, and principles based on mutual respect and shared interests. Anwar said that Malaysia and Thailand will continue to enhance cooperation in border area development, rail and logistics networks, energy security, flood mitigation, and people-to-people relations. “This closeness is not merely about continuing the long-standing legacy of friendship, but also serves as an important foundation in building a more peaceful, prosperous, and resilient regional future,” Anwar remarked.
