Kuala Lumpur – Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has characterised attacks on Iran as an imposed war, driven by Israeli hegemonic ambitions in West Asia and supported by the American war machine.

Anwar made these remarks during his address at the Malaysia Madani Scholars Forum in Putrajaya on Monday.

“We meet today amid an imposed war against the sovereign nation of Iran and its people, driven by Israeli hegemonic ambitions in West Asia and supported by the American war machine,” Anwar said.

Anwar stressed that the attacks on Iran were directed with high precision against spiritual, political and military leaders, with missile strikes also killing schoolchildren who were studying.

According to Anwar, the Iran war cannot be fully measured by numbers alone, as deaths and destruction are manifestations of a deeper geopolitical reality.

He argued that the attacks represent an attempt to annihilate, dominate and subjugate by any means.

Anwar underscored that the war has consequences for the entire world, including Malaysia, as a result of broader geopolitical and geoeconomic ramifications.

At the same time, Malaysia has called for a halt to escalation and an increase in diplomatic engagement across the region.

He stressed that if international law is to maintain its credibility, the law must apply equally to all.
