Malaysia, S'pore to settle disputes

KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): Senior officials from Malaysia and
Singapore will meet in the next two weeks in an attempt to
resolve long-standing bilateral squabbles, Malaysian Foreign
Minister Syed Hamid Albar said on Friday.

"The faster they (discussions) can be held, the better," Syed
Hamid was quoted as saying by the official Bernama news agency
during a visit to the southern state of Johor.

"Let the officials discuss whatever is necessary... only then
will we know what can be decided. If there is anything
(problems), they will report it at the ministerial level."

Syed Hamid added that the senior officials would attempt to
settle a number of disputes as a "package", a plan agreed upon by
leaders of both countries in December.
