Malaysia, S'pore to discuss pollution
SINGAPORE (AFP): Malaysia and Singapore will hold a two-day meeting to discuss the forest fire pollution currently affecting both countries, the Ministry of Environment said.
A statement from the ministry said over the weekend the two- day meeting of the Malaysia-Singapore Joint Committee on the Environment (MSJCE), would be held in Penang in north Malaysia.
A haze caused by forest fires in Indonesia has affected the two countries for about a month, with Malaysia declaring a national alert last week when its air pollution level touched 247.
Singapore's Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) touched a high of 142 last week and has been hovering above the 100 level for the whole week. PSI readings above 100 are considered unhealthy. Malaysia and Singapore use different systems of measuring air pollution.
