Malaysia Seizes Container Ships Bound for Israel, PM Anwar's Post Supporting Palestine Goes Viral
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has emphasised Malaysia’s position in rejecting its territory being used as a transit point for any cargo ships that contribute to Israeli military operations. In a statement posted on X on Tuesday (15/09/2026), Anwar stated that Malaysia remains committed to preventing its country from being used as a tool to support aggression or the oppression of innocent people.
“Malaysia’s position is clear and firm. We will not allow our country to be used as a conduit for any shipment that supports or contributes to Israel’s military capabilities and the atrocities against Palestinians and other innocent lives,” said Anwar, as quoted by Bernama.
“Any suspicious shipment will be subject to inspection and investigation in accordance with Malaysian law. Where wrongdoing is found, decisive action will be taken,” Anwar added.
Prime Minister Anwar’s statement was released alongside a foreign media report highlighting a new level of surveillance regarding shipments via ships departing for Israel through Malaysia. Bloomberg reported that Malaysian authorities seized three container ships scheduled to depart for Israel from the Port of Tanjung Pelepas.
The three ships were seized on 19 August while en route to Ashdod Port, carrying electric bicycle components from the Chinese manufacturer, Chongqing Mobimax Technology Co. Malaysian authorities are investigating the container cargo, and the three ships are expected to remain at the Port of Tanjung Pelepas for at least another month.
Previously, on 7 August, Malaysia also detained a container ship suspected of carrying firearms because the delivery address was directed to Elbit Systems.
