Malaysia jails 42 foreigners
PENANG, Malaysia (DPA): A court on the Malaysian resort island of Penang sentenced 42 Philippine and Indonesian women to eight months jail each for entering the country without valid permits and possessing forged Malaysia documents, the Star newspaper reported yesterday.
One woman, a Filipino factory worker, suffered an asthma attack in court. Evanceline Nueva, 23, was sobbing with 37 other Filipinos and four Indonesian female workers when she went into asthmatic spasm.
Earlier the women, aged between 18 and 35, pleaded guilty to entering Malaysia without valid permits or passes at the hostel of the company they worked for, Allegiance Healthcare.
They were also charged with knowingly using forged temporary Malaysian identity card receipts.
