Malaysia gropes soccer bribery
KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): Malaysia's police and anti-corruption
agency will screen all local teams participating in the national
premier league amid widespread allegations of match-fixing,
officials said yesterday.
"It's about time we stood united against this enemy (soccer
bribery), and I can't think of a better way than to have all the
Malaysian premier league teams investigated," said Prince
Abdullah Ahmad Shah, deputy president of the Football Association
of Malaysia.
"It has become a mess now and if we don't push for it, it will
get bigger and out of everyone's control," he said, adding that
the credibility of Malaysian football was at stake.
