Malaysia forms multimedia ministry
KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters): Malaysia will merge its information
ministry and the energy, telecommunications and posts portfolio,
the national Bernama news agency reported yesterday.
Information Minister Mohamed Rahmat was quoted as saying his
ministry and that of energy, telecommunications and posts would
be merged under a proposed multimedia ministry.
The Multimedia Convergence Bill 1998, which will enable the
merger to take place, is to be brought before parliament in July,
Bernama reported.
The merger will result in the restructuring of departments and
agencies under the two ministries, including state broadcaster
Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM).
