Malaysia Extends MH370 Search Until 2027
Malaysian authorities have announced that the search for Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 will be extended for another year, until 2027. The disappearance of MH370, which was carrying 239 people, remains one of the greatest unsolved mysteries in aviation history.
The Boeing 777 aircraft, operated by Malaysia Airlines, vanished from radar screens on 8 March 2014 while en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, China. More than a decade later, the exact circumstances of the disappearance remain uncertain.
Two-thirds of the passengers on the flight were Chinese nationals, while the remainder included citizens from Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia, India, the United States, the Netherlands, and France.
Despite the largest search operation in aviation history being conducted, the aircraft has yet to be located.
Malaysian Transport Minister Anthony Loke, in his latest statement as reported by AFP on Monday (29/06/202<0xC2>6), announced that the extension of the MH370 search operation will be valid until 30 June 2027.
Loke stated that the search operation will maintain all terms and conditions within the existing agreement with the exploration company Ocean Infinity.
This includes the ‘no find, no fee’ principle, meaning Ocean Infinity will only be paid US$70 million (approximately Rp 1.2 trillion) if the MH370 wreckage is successfully located.
