Malaysia deals with RI over 2006 Asiad
KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): Malaysia is withdrawing its challenge to the incumbent Indonesian vice president of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) in exchange for Jakarta's support for its 2006 Asian Games bid, Bernama news agency said.
The official agency, in a report late Tuesday, said Indonesian tycoon Bob Hasan had promised to seek support from fellow Southeast Asian countries for Malaysia's bid to host the Games if it opts out of the vice presidential contest.
Bob Hasan has been OCA vice president for four terms.
Olympic Council of Malaysia president Tunku Imran Tuanku Jaafar was nominated for the vice president's post at the OCA general assembly in Kuwait last month.
