Malaysia continues swoop on illegals
KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): A total of 162 illegal immigrants, mostly
from Indonesia, were detained in separate operations as Malaysian
authorities stepped up a clampdown on illegals, local newspapers
reported yesterday.
A 44-year old Pakistani, said to be a recruiting agent for a
labor agency in Lahore, Pakistan, was also detained for
harboring illegal immigrants, police said.
In a pre-dawn raid on Saturday, Malaysian police detained 133
Indonesians, four Myanmarese and four Bangladeshis after frisking
248 foreigners in several industrial estates in southwestern
Negri Sembilan state.
Police said they were detained for having expired work permits
or fake travel documents.
