Kuala Lumpur (ANTARA) - Malaysia has strongly condemned the approval of Israel’s law that imposes the death penalty on Palestinian citizens.

“Malaysia firmly condemns the approval of the law by the Zionist Israeli regime that mandates the death penalty in the Occupied Palestinian Territory and its de facto application against the Palestinian people,” stated a release from the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Wisma Putra) in Kuala Lumpur on Friday.

Wisma Putra stated that the law is clearly discriminatory against the Palestinian people and eliminates all forms of judicial discretion.

Malaysia asserts that legislation that explicitly targets individuals based on ethnicity and national identity constitutes a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and human rights law, including the Fourth Geneva Convention and relevant international human rights treaties.

“This is another discriminatory step by the Zionist Israeli regime to entrench the apartheid system in its illegal occupation of the Palestinian Territory,” the statement emphasised.

Malaysia expressed solidarity with the international community in voicing concerns over the conditions of Palestinian detainees in Israeli custody, amid credible reports of ongoing violations, including torture, inhuman and degrading treatment, starvation, and denial of basic rights to Palestinian citizens.

Malaysia urges the international community to take firm, principled, and collective action to ensure accountability, uphold international law, and end all forms of discriminatory practices and oppression against the Palestinian people.
