The Malaysian government has strongly condemned the approval of a law by Israel that imposes mandatory death sentences in the Occupied Palestinian Territories and its de facto application to the Palestinian people.

“Malaysia strongly condemns the approval of the law by the Zionist regime of Israel that imposes mandatory death sentences in the Occupied Palestinian Territories and its de facto application to the Palestinian people,” stated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia (Wisma Putra) in Kuala Lumpur on Friday (3/4).

Wisma Putra stated that the law is clearly discriminatory against the Palestinian people and eliminates all forms of judicial discretion.

Malaysia asserts that legislation that explicitly targets individuals based on ethnicity and national identity constitutes a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and human rights law, including the Fourth Geneva Convention and relevant international human rights treaties.

“This is another discriminatory step by the Zionist regime of Israel to strengthen the apartheid system in its illegal occupation of the Palestinian Territories,” the statement emphasised.

Malaysia stated that it stands with the international community in voicing concerns over the conditions of Palestinian detainees in Israeli custody, amid credible reports of ongoing violations, including torture, inhuman and degrading treatment, starvation, and denial of basic rights to Palestinian citizens.

Malaysia urges the international community to take firm, principled, and collective action to ensure accountability, uphold international law, and end all forms of discriminatory and oppressive practices against the Palestinian people. (Ant/P-3)

JDF Asia Pacific also urged concrete steps from the international community to halt its implementation.

They underscored that the law represents a dangerous escalation, particularly its discriminatory application to Palestinian detainees.

They also called on all parties to refrain from actions that could endanger peacekeepers.

The Al-Aqsa Mosque complex has been closed for 34 consecutive days by Israeli authorities. Tensions are rising ahead of the Easter holiday in line with plans for incursions by certain groups.
